Depression Symptoms

Major Depression unipolar (only a depressed mood as opposed to bipolar - depressed and manic moods) single episode or chronic (lasting more than 6 months) This results from a chemical imbalance in the brain (neurotrasnmitters - seratonin, norepinepherine, dopamine)

  • Depressed mood- This is not the result of an environmental event such as divorce, job loss, death of a loved one, etc.
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Decreased appetite
  • Decreased energy
  • Decreased motivation
  • Decreased social interaction
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Decreased pleasure
  • Difficulty concentrating resulting in memory problems
  • Irritability
  • Suicidal thoughts - plans, attempts or intent
