Jimmy's panic attacks
Jimmy began having panic attacks at the age of seventeen after he and several friends were crawling around in freshly buried sewer pipes. Every once in a while they would come to a place where they could see the surface and would poke their heads out. As they kept going, they came to several places where they could not get out. They were completely in the dark, and Jimmy became panicky. He turned and went into a "blind run" in order to get back to the opening. He knocked down and ran over the people who were behind him.

He had been having panic attacks since that time when he got into situations where he felt as though he was going to lose control and embarrass himself in public. This increased to the point that he was unable to travel beyond a 15 mile radius from his home. He got panicky in tunnels, elevators and other closed areas and was unable to tolerate them. He would drive thirty minutes out of his way to avoid going through a tunnel. This worsening condition had compromised his lifestyle. He was able to function in a limited way when he came in for treatment at the age of 36.

How's Jimmy doing now? Read about it in Dr. Granoff's book, Help! I Think I'm Dying.
