Depression Symptoms
Major Depression unipolar (only a depressed mood as opposed to bipolar - depressed and manic moods) single episode or chronic (lasting more than 6 months) This results from a chemical imbalance in the brain (neurotrasnmitters - seratonin, norepinepherine, dopamine)
- Depressed mood- This is not the result of an environmental event such as divorce, job loss, death of a loved one, etc.
- Difficulty falling or staying asleep
- Decreased appetite
- Decreased energy
- Decreased motivation
- Decreased social interaction
- Decreased sex drive
- Decreased pleasure
- Difficulty concentrating resulting in memory problems
- Irritability
- Suicidal thoughts - plans, attempts or intent
